Data Collection and Use
The Conservative Party strives to meet 'P3P' standards (the 'Platform for Privacy Preferences Project') on data privacy. We are the sole owner of any information we collect, except for information that we hold on behalf of the users of the site. We never sell, share, or rent information collected through the site unless we first disclose the fact in this privacy statement. We collect and use data as described below.
Log Files and Statistics
If you do not register with the site we will not collect information that allows us to identify you. We do, however, use IP addresses, URI's of requested resources, timestamps and HTTP user-agents to analyse trends, administer the system and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. In addition to this we use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc ("Google"). Google Analytics uses cookies, to help analyse how visitors use our site (see Cookies, below). The information generated by the cookie about the use of our website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports on website activity for the Conservative Party and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.
Site registration
If you register with the site we collect your name, your email and postal address, your selected password and your preferences regarding email notifications that we might send to you. At your option, you can also provide your telephone number, a photograph of yourself and some words introducing yourself.
Your use of the site
We may collect further information through your use of the site – for example, we will keep a record of the campaigns that you support and any donations that you make and we will hold any messages that you exchange with other users.
If you make a donation we will ask you to provide payment information (such as your credit card number and expiry date) and personal information that we must collect to abide by legal and voluntary codes of conduct (such as the constituency in which you are registered to vote).
If you make a donation to a particular campaign the site will identify you as the last person to have made a donation to that campaign unless you opt to keep that information private.
If you donate more than £5,000 to the Party via the website, we are obliged under the Political Parties Elections and Referendums Act 2000 to report the donation to the Electoral Commission, who will publish the fact that you have made a donation over £5,000. For more information, please see http://www.electoralcommission.gov.uk
Under the Political Party Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (PPERA) you must be on the electoral register in the UK excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in order to make a donation of more than £200.
Our use of your information
If you register with the site we will build a "profile" from the information that we collect about you. This consists of your name (not your address), your photograph, your introductory words and information as to the campaigns you support. This information will be accessible to all the other registered users of the site.
We will use your profile information and the other information that we collect about you to customise and improve the site and the Party's campaigning activities, to allow you and the other registered users to communicate through the site and to send you information about the campaigns that you support. This information will be sent through the site and you can also opt to receive notifications by email.
We may disclose your information to service providers which help us with the administration of the site and our campaigns. You should also be aware that your profile information will be widely available to registered users of the site, who may be located anywhere in the world, including in countries which do not have data protection laws as stringent as those in the UK. You should bear this in mind in deciding whether to provide, and selecting, a photograph and introductory words.
Your rights
You have rights of access to and correction of the information that we hold about you under data protection law. You can change your basic registration / profile information directly through the facilities provided in the site itself. To request access to other information that we hold about you please contact us using the contact details given at the beginning of this policy.

Links
Our website links to other sites, but we shall always try to warn you when this is the case. Please note that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites: make sure you read their privacy statements if you are concerned about the information they are collecting about you. This statement only applies to our website.
Security
We take every precaution to protect your details. When you submit sensitive information via the website, it is secure both on its way to us and once we receive it.
For instance, our donation forms encrypt your credit card number using encryption technology called -- 'secure socket layers' or SSL. If you use Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, you can tell whether a page is secure by checking whether there is a locked padlock or key in the right corner of your browser. The URL of the page you are viewing will also begin with https://.
We also do everything in our power to protect your information once we have received it. Our staff can only access your details if they have a specific job to perform, such as dealing with a membership enquiry. They also have to keep up to date on our security and privacy practices.
Finally, the servers that store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.
Supplementing Information
We take our responsibilities to protect you from fraud very seriously. To fulfil this obligation, we sometimes have to supplement the information you give us with information from third party sources - usually, in order to make sure that no-one else is using your credit card. We do not keep this information any longer than we have to.
Correcting/Updating Information
We recognise that details such as your post code or email address are bound to change over time. We will do what we can to ensure that you can change the information we hold about you.
Choice/Opt Out
You will always be able to opt out of having your information used for any purpose other than that specifically related to the page where we ask for it. Our registration form, for instance, has an opt out mechanism so that you can register without subscribing to receive email notifications.
If you ever want to stop us getting in touch, you can opt out by following the instructions at the foot of every email we send.
Notification of Changes
If we change our privacy policy, we shall post a link to those changes on our homepage so that you always know what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
When we collect information from you, we tell you what we intend to do with it; if we later want to use that information for a different purpose, we shall first send you an email setting out our plans - and it will be up to you whether or not we do so.
